PRO FOOTBALL DAILY REPORT : RAMS : Buchanan Getting a Look

Share

Because of injuries, free-agent receiver Richard Buchanan continues to climb the depth chart. He was running with the first team in Tuesday’s practice.

“I’m getting a lot of reps and I just have to make the best of this opportunity,” Buchanan said, “but my body’s just kind of tired right now.”

Injuries to Todd Kinchen, Sean LaChapelle, Joe Washington, Phillip Bobo and a day of rest for Henry Ellard have allowed Buchanan an opportunity to show off for a team looking for wide receivers Nos. 3 and 4.

Defensive end Gerald Robinson, a 16-game starter last season, will become the team’s designated pass rusher this season, allowing Fred Stokes and Robert Young to start at defensive end.

In pass rushing drills Tuesday, Robinson blew past tackle Irv Eatman and then manhandled rookie tackle Charles Belin. He continued to play havoc with the Rams’ offense in 11-on-11 drills.

“He’s looked good every day,” Coach Chuck Knox said. “He’s got that speed and quickness and he’s an excellent pass rusher. That’s something we really needed.”
