Fountain Valley and Westminster police were on the lookout Wednesday for two men who tried to commit four armed robberies from their car within an hour Tuesday night.

The robbers, both about 18 years old, were driving a late-model black Buick Riviera when they confronted five victims, three of whom refused to comply with their demands. None were injured.

The first attempt occurred about 8:35 p.m. on Northampton Avenue, near Brookhurst Street and McFadden Avenue, Westminster Police Lt. Mike Schliskey said.

“They drove through a residential area and confronted two men who were standing on a front lawn,” Schliskey said. “The passenger pointed a gun at the men and told them to drop their wallets.”

One of the victims did not have a wallet, but the other immediately dropped his and both ran into the house. The gunman got out of the car, picked up the wallet, and the thieves drove away.

Moments later, they confronted a 36-year-old Fountain Valley man in front of a Music Plus store at 15550 Brookhurst St. in Westminster.

“They asked him to give up his wallet. He refused and they drove away empty-handed,” Schliskey said.

The pair next struck at 8:51 p.m. on Maidstone Street in Fountain Valley when they confronted a UPS driver and demanded money from him at gunpoint.

The victim, a 44-year-old Costa Mesa man, dived behind a parked car without handing over any money and the robbers drove away, Fountain Valley Police Capt. Bill De Nisi said.

About 20 minutes later, the robbers approached a 37-year-old man in front of a 7-Eleven store at Harbor Boulevard and Heil Avenue in Fountain Valley. They demanded money and threatened to shoot the man.

The Fountain Valley resident refused to hand over any money and ran from the scene. He was not injured.
