Two teen-agers armed with handguns boarded a city bus Friday, fired shots into the roof, then robbed 22 people of cash and jewelry before fleeing on foot, police said.

A teen-age girl who was struck in the face with a gun butt during the robbery was treated at a hospital and released.

The bus was traveling through the city’s borough of Queens when three boys halted it Friday morning, said police Detective Kim Royster.

As one of the youths waited outside, Royster said, the other two boarded the bus, fired several shots and announced the robbery. One of the robbers was armed with an automatic handgun and the other with a revolver, police said.

Witnesses said the boys, who did not try to conceal their identities, ranged in age from 15 to 17.
