A 43-year-old Fillmore man was killed along California 126 after his car sideswiped an oncoming vehicle and rolled over an embankment, the California Highway Patrol said Sunday.

Larry G. Whisnant was driving westbound about two miles east of Fillmore shortly after 5 p.m. Saturday when his vehicle drifted into the eastbound lane and struck a vehicle driven by Sandra L. Linnartz, 42, of Lancaster, a CHP spokesman said.

Whisnant’s vehicle swerved back into the westbound lane, but overcorrected and ran off the road, rolling up a dirt embankment and flipping over, authorities said.

He was not wearing a seat belt and was pronounced dead at Santa Paula Memorial Hospital, the CHP said. Linnartz, who had been wearing a shoulder belt, suffered a minor injury, officials said.

Whisnant, who worked as a warehouse manager in Camarillo, is survived by a wife and daughter in Fillmore, and another daughter in Riverside County, said Craig Stevens, a Ventura County senior deputy coroner.
