BASEBALL / DAILY REPORT : DODGERS : McDowell Makes It Through Trading Deadline
Roger McDowell poked his head into Lasorda’s office Sunday morning and Manager Tom Lasorda greeted him with: “Roger, you made it!”
McDowell, the subject of trade talks recently, said he hid Saturday night until the midnight trading deadline passed.
“I didn’t answer the phone and I was not to be found,” McDowell said. “My role is not as great as it used to be here . . . But I like it here . . . “Besides, if I go somewhere else, I might have to pitch.”
McDowell is 4-0 with a 1.85 earned-run average in 48 2/3 innings in 39 games.

Todd Williams, a right-handed side-arm closer for the Dodgers triple-A team at Albuquerque, will pitch in front of his father today for the first time in his professional career. Williams, from Syracuse, N.Y., was called up to pitch in the Hall of Fame game in Cooperstown, where the Dodgers play the Cleveland Indians. Williams’ father has not seen his son pitch since Williams joined the Dodger organization three years ago.
