Sheriff’s deputies were searching Wednesday for an East Los Angeles man who immediately resumed stalking his ex-wife and children when he was released from prison after serving time for trying to kill them.

Jose Luis Enriquez was sentenced to three years in prison for trying to kill his ex-wife, daughter and son by ramming them with his car. He was paroled July 29 after serving one year and nine months.

After his release, Enriquez called his ex-wife and told her he was coming over to kill her and their children, said Los Angeles County sheriff’s Deputy Manny Rodarte. Since then, Enriquez has been seen at her workplace and home several times, said Deputy Larry Mead of the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.

Enriquez drove by Saturday while a detective was interviewing Enriquez’s ex-wife at her East Los Angeles home, then rammed the detective’s car with his vehicle and sped off, Rodarte said. The detective gave chase but Enriquez escaped.

“He drove by, and the victims (the ex-wife, daughter and son) said, ‘That’s him. There he goes,’ ” Rodarte said. “Then he tried to push the detective’s car with his car.”

Deputies have appealed to the public for help in finding the ex-convict, whom Rodarte called “unpredictable and dangerous.”

Enriquez stalked his ex-wife relentlessly before he was sent to prison, Rodarte said. He beat her while she was pregnant and threatened to kill her sister. He was arrested after crashing his car though the front gate of her house while she was outside, Rodarte said.

“He has a history of violence against them,” Rodarte said.

After Enriquez tried to kill them by running them over with his car, his ex-wife and 15-year-old son testified against him in court. He was convicted on charges of spousal abuse, hit-and-run and assault with a deadly weapon, Rodarte said.

Police are monitoring Enriquez’s ex-wife and children to protect them. They are also following leads such as one from a man who said Enriquez stole his car after helping him fix a flat tire in East Los Angeles on Tuesday.
