IRVINE : Council Candidates’ Filing Deadline Today
- Share via
Candidates for the open seat on the City Council have until 5 p.m. today to file nomination papers with the city clerk’s office.
So far, four people have taken out papers, but by late Thursday, none had returned them, said City Clerk Judy Vonada.
Once the nomination papers are collected, they will be sent to the county registrar of voters’ office for verification of signatures.
Irvine voters will pick a new council member Nov. 2. The winning candidate will serve the one year remaining on the term of William A. (Art) Bloomer, who resigned last month to accept a job in Virginia.
The election is expected to cost the city about $60,000. Candidates who want their statements printed in the voter pamphlet will have to pay about $700, Vonada said.
