PAPAL COVERAGE: Cable television subscribers in 13 East San Fernando Valley communities will be able to watch live coverage of Pope John Paul II’s visit to Denver and World Youth Day activities next week on United Artists Cable System’s channel 24.

The cable franchise will carry 51 hours of coverage over five days from Eternal Word Television Network, the Catholic-oriented network based in Birmingham, Ala. Father Timothy Dolan and seminary student Stephanie Claudy will co-anchor the coverage and provide commentary. Reports in Spanish will be included.

The coverage times are: Wednesday, 5 to 9:30 p.m.; Thursday, 8 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.; Friday, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Saturday, 7 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., and Sunday, 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The programming is free to all United Artists subscribers with basic service in communities from Sylmar to Studio City and Sun Valley to Sherman Oaks, according to spokeswoman Kim Hurwitz. For information, call (818) 778-5123.

MEDICAL ETHICS: The Rev. Karl E. Kniseley II, a Lutheran who has pastored churches in Glendale and Los Angeles and is now president of UniHealth America Foundation, will speak on “Medical Ethics and the Senior Citizen Community” at a Clergy Network luncheon, Aug. 18 in Reseda.

Kniseley, who also serves on hospital and bar association ethics committees, is founder of the Bioethics Institute of UniHealth Foundation, which recently merged with Blue Shield.

The clergy luncheon, at Woodland Care Center, 7120 Corbin Ave., is open to the public. Reservations should be made by calling the Clergy Network office at (818) 225-8125.

PACOIMA REVIVAL: The Rev. Samuel Austin, pastor of the Brown Memorial Baptist Church in Brooklyn, will be the evangelist next week for the annual six-day church revival at Calvary Baptist Church in Pacoima.

The revival will begin Sunday with Austin preaching at the 10:55 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. services in the church at 12928 Vaughn St. Services will start at 7:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The Rev. William T. Broadous, pastor of the host church, said that Austin has preached widely in the National Baptist Convention, U.S.A. Inc., to which Calvary Baptist also belongs.

PIANIST: Composer-pianist David Black, who has worked with Shirley MacLaine, Carol Burnett, Bob Hope and other Hollywood artists, will be featured at the piano during Sunday morning services this month at Encino Community Church, according to Pastor Margie Ann Nicols. The church, at 5955 Lindley Ave., Tarzana, begins its Sunday service at 11 a.m.
