WESTMINSTER : Shooting Suspect’s Extradition Delayed
Extradition of Douglas Frederick Stanley, the Westminster man accused of killing two people in Fountain Valley, was delayed again this week because the necessary papers have not arrived, officials in Grand Junction, Colo., said.
Stanley, 57, allegedly shot and killed his sister-in-law, Joyce Stanley, 52, and her employee, Terry Vasquez, 41, on July 8 at her embroidery shop. He was arrested in Parachute, Colo., a small town located 45 miles east of Grand Junction, on July 11 following a nationwide manhunt.
He is being held without bail in the Mesa County Jail in Grand Junction.
Deputy Dist. Atty. Frank Daniels said a warrant from Gov. Pete Wilson needs to be sent to Colorado Gov. Roy Romer, processed, then sent to Mesa County.
Mesa County District Judge Chuck Buss, in a brief court session Monday, rescheduled Stanley’s extradition hearing for Aug. 31, at which time Daniels hopes to have the warrant from California in hand.
Public Defender David Eisner said that such delays are typical and that it was “just a matter of time” before Stanley was returned to California to face charges.
