PRO FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : RAIDERS : Harrell Being Cut Doesn’t Last Long
Twenty-four hours after he was released by the Raiders, tight end Greg Harrell was back.
The Raiders cut wide receiver J.J. Celestine on Thursday and re-signed Harrell, who had been cut the day before to make room for Howie Long.
Celestine was delayed in being cut because of an injury to his right shoulder.
Harrell, a former Maryland player, was “discovered” by fellow Raider Willie Gault while the two were on the 1992 U.S. bobsled team at the Winter Olympics.
In the Raiders’ season-opening exhibition game against the Green Bay Packers, Harrell, 31, caught his only pass, a three-yard throw from quarterback Vince Evans for a touchdown.

The Raiders will have a morning walk-through of their formations--in street clothes--at their Oxnard training camp today, then fly to Dallas for Saturday night’s exhibition game against the Cowboys.
*
After watching Long, who ended a 25-day holdout Tuesday, in practice for several days, Raider Coach Art Shell said he would play a bit Saturday.
*
Shell said he plans on sticking to the same quarterback rotation Saturday that he used a week ago, meaning Jeff Hostetler will work the first half and Evans most of the second half, with either Todd Marinovich or Billy Joe Hobert perhaps getting some work in the fourth quarter.
