Readers Tell Murray Sabatini Is a Lot More Than Just a Pretty Face

Share

It’s unfortunate that such a large front-page article was written on tennis star Gabriela Sabatini (Aug. 10) which depicted her beauty as her No. 1 asset.

Come on, Jim Murray, Gabriela has worked hard to get where she is, she deserves more credit than a cheap article describing her obvious beauty. Let’s inform the folks of statistics. After all, this is a sports section, not a romance novel.

Gabriela Sabatini’s beauty is undeniable and certainly worth noting. However, a clear-thinking individual concludes from her story that if her father and brother shared Murray’s “just sit there and look pretty” mentality, then the sports world would have one less great tennis player. If Sharon Stone had an aptitude for throwing a discus, a real mensch would urge her to throw it.

Jim Murray’s column of Aug. 3 drew an analogy between the conduct of Vince Coleman and the conduct of an unnamed pitcher (Steve Howe).

To compare the two acts is folly. Vince Coleman assaulted three persons with a deadly weapon; Steve Howe seemingly abused himself with controlled substances.

If you don’t buy this distinction, ask 2-year-old Amanda Santos.

I would be the first to say Vince Coleman committed a childish, immature and negligent act, but for Jim Murray to imply that Jeffrey Dahmer is in any way more humane or thoughtful than Vince Coleman is a grave insult to the victims and families of the deranged man.
