Fountain Valley Wins Colt Title
Luke Hudson pitched a one-hitter to lead Fountain Valley to a 11-0 victory over Maui, Hawaii, in the championship game of the Colt League World Series Tuesday in Lafayette, Ind.
Hudson allowed only an infield single in the bottom of the fifth in a game shortened to five innings because of the 10-run rule.
Fountain Valley swept through the tournament, outscoring its five opponents, 45-9. It was the first time in tournament history that a team was undefeated, according to Coach Chris Sorce.
The team, made up of 15- and 16-year-olds from Fountain Valley High School, is the first non-all-star team to win the Colt League title, Sorce said.
Hudson recorded three of the victories, tying him with Sid Fernandez, now of the New York Mets, for the Colt League tournament record.
Chris Ponchak two hits, including a two-run home run, Danny Hoppe had two hits, including an inside the park homer and Deric Yanagisawa had two hits and an run batted in.
