Woman Seriously Hurt in Car Crash
A 23-year-old woman was in serious condition Wednesday after losing control of her car at about 100 m.p.h. just after midnight on Newport Coast Road near MacArthur Boulevard, police said.
Kimberly Stowe was reportedly traveling at high speed when she lost control, hit an embankment and became airborne. The car went through about 100 feet of brush before it came to a stop on MacArthur Boulevard, police said. Stowe was thrown from the car.
Irvine police officers who arrived at the scene found Stowe’s passenger, 24-year-old Thomas Jenkins of Huntington Beach, crawling out of the car.
Jenkins, who suffered minor injuries, was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange, where he was treated and released.
Stowe, a resident of Ft. Myers, Fla., was taken to Western Medical Center-Santa Ana with injuries to her spleen, arm and diaphragm.
Police said alcohol may have been involved in the crash, which remains under investigation.
