PRO FOOTBALL DAILY REPORT : AROUND THE NFL : Colt Quarterback George Ends Holdout

Share

Quarterback Jeff George of the Indianapolis Colts ended his 36-day holdout Friday, but it was hardly a triumphant return.

He lost $144,000 in fines and failed to get Colt officials to budge on his demand to be traded.

George didn’t even attend the Friday news conference to announce his arrival. Instead, he issued a statement:

“I am back to play football and to help the team in any possible way. The next several weeks obviously will take intense concentration to prepare for the upcoming season.”

Colt Coach Ted Marchibroda is expected to stick with Jack Trudeau as his starter, although Trudeau left during the second quarter of Friday night’s 18-7 exhibition victory over the Raiders because of a bruised hand.

“Jack is the quarterback,” Marchibroda said before the game. “Jack will be the quarterback until he possibly loses it, but, at this particular time, we certainly don’t foresee that.”

George will be paid $2.6 million this season.
