Flock Holds Off Tripp, Wins 30-Lap Main Event at Ventura
Robby Flock of Temecula edged Costa Mesa’s Sleepy Tripp by half a car length to win the USAC midget 30-lap main event Saturday night at Ventura Raceway.
Flock retained his lead over Tripp in the series point standings, 459 to 422. Flock trailed Huntington Beach driver Keith Chrisco as late as the 25th lap before Chrisco fell back with engine trouble. Tripp, the defending USAC midget champion, was in fifth place on the 20th lap.
J.J. Ercse of Bellflower won his third three-quarter Midget main event, holding off Cory Kruseman of Ventura in the 20-lap race. Ercse took command of the point leadership from Ventura driver Kenny Moore, who finished in 12th place and trails Ercse, 418 points to 405.
Kruseman who won the July 24 main event, pressured Ercse the entire race, but failed to repeat at Ventura.
