Santa Clarita / Antelope Valley : Rewards Offered for Information in Shooting
PALMDALE — At least $35,000 is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the unknown assailant of a telephone company worker.
Pacific Bell is offering a $25,000 reward and the city of Palmdale is offering $10,000 for information that would lead to the conviction of the person or persons who shot and severely injured Douglas Bundy, a telephone company service technician who was working in an underground manhole at the time of the Aug. 16 incident.
“If these things can combine to get some information that will bring us some answers, we hope we served Doug well,” said Kate Flynn, a Pacific Bell spokeswoman.
Bundy, a 41-year-old Palmdale resident, was shot in the head while working in a manhole at Palmdale Boulevard and 35th Street East in Palmdale. He remains in critical condition with severe head injuries at Antelope Valley Hospital Medical Center.
Detectives have so far come up with little information about the attack. Bundy, a Pacific Bell employee for 21 years, had started working in the manhole about 8 a.m. He was discovered about 10:45 a.m. at the bottom of the 10-foot hole by a co-worker.
Witnesses said a black male, 25 to 35 years old, was seen leaving the manhole area about 10:30 a.m., according to the Sheriff’s Department. Witnesses described the man as 5-foot-8 to 5-foot-10, weighing 170 to 180 pounds with a medium complexion.
When Bundy was discovered, it was thought that he was injured in a work-related accident.
