SPELL IT OUT: The Santa Ana Unified...

SPELL IT OUT: The Santa Ana Unified School District has always said that if any of its 5,000 students are caught bringing a weapon on campus, they’re out. But this week its board made it a written order. Says spokeswoman Diane Thomas: “We wanted to make sure the parents were absolutely clear about the policy.” . . . . To help promote school safety, the district is setting up a toll-free number to call regarding anyone taking a weapon to school: (800) NO 2 GUNS.

PUBLIC FACE SAVING: If you’re in the mood for a face lift, would you tell the world at a black-tie affair? Maybe for a good cause. . . . The local Muscular Dystrophy Assn. is holding a $75-per-person fund-raising auction Friday night at the Waterfront Hilton Beach Resort in Huntington Beach. One of the auction items: Doctors at Newport Beach Surgery Center are donating $10,000 in cosmetic surgery. Says one of the organizers: “I don’t recall a face lift ever being offered at an auction.”

HOME & ABROAD: Symphony conductor Carl St. Clair isn’t around to see it--he’s touring Europe with an orchestra--but the Home & Garden Show at the Anaheim Convention Center has created a “Carl St.Clair” living room. It’s to show visitors how designers think the conductor ought to live. . . . It’s filled with antiques, Chinese and Indian art and, of course, a baby grand. “It’s probably too masculine for some people,” says Mary Freistroffer, one of the designers. St.Clair will return to conduct the Pacific Symphony season opener Oct. 6-7.

SHE ASKED MIKE: Who is in the audience on those TV “infomercials”? One is Tamara Campbell, a Laguna Niguel city planner. She says she signed up to be in the audience for a new “Ask Mike!” infomercial (F5) for some extra money and to pick up pointers for a segment she hosts on a local cable channel. “It gets a little tedious because you’re sitting so long,” says Campbell, who adds that the food is free and “they treat you very well.”
