Arcadia : Bear Caught and Relocated

Share

A 350-pound black bear, which had been raiding trash cans around the Arcadia Wilderness Park in the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains, was trapped late Tuesday and then relocated Wednesday to the mountains west of Pyramid Lake.

The bear had not harmed anyone, but officials in Arcadia and with the California Department of Fish and Game said the male animal was moved as a precautionary measure in light of recent bear attacks in the San Bernardino Mountains.

State game wardens spent six nights trying to trap the bear. During that time, Arcadia officials canceled all overnight camping and scouting activities in the park.

The bear’s capture follows sightings of another bear that has been lumbering into populated areas of Monrovia, Bradbury and Duarte.
