NORTHRIDGE : Latino Cultural Exhibit to Begin

Share

CSUN is kicking off a monthlong Latino cultural exhibit tonight with a celebration that will feature Bolivian and Aztec music and dance and Latino literary readings.

The exhibit--which includes Mexican lithographs, photographs from Chile and cultural artifacts and documents--comes from library collections and loans to the school by students and professors, and coincides with the national Hispanic Heritage Month. Tony Gardener, an archive librarian at CSUN and one of the organizers of the “Exposicion Latina: A Celebration of Heritage,” said in addition to showcasing works from South, Central and North America, organizers hope to draw attention to the school’s urban archives center. “We are trying to encourage Latinos to donate their family papers or association papers,” Gardener said.

City Councilman Richard Alarcon is scheduled to join students, professors, administrators and guests at the opening event, which will be held from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at the Oviatt Library on the CSUN campus.
