THOUSAND OAKS : Plaza Donors Can Join Founders Circle

Share

For $50,000, donors to the Civic Arts Plaza Endowment Fund can join a new club--the Founders Circle, a fund-raising and advisory body created by the Thousand Oaks City Council.

The Founders Circle will advise the city on programming and operations at the cultural center’s auditorium and forum theater. The group will also sponsor special presentations or educational programs, such as a children’s theater festival.

Finally, members of the Founders Circle will help with fund-raising efforts, especially targeting donors outside the Conejo Valley, from Malibu to Ventura to the San Fernando Valley.

“These are the heavy hitters,” said Thomas Mitze, executive director of the theaters in the $64-million Civic Arts Plaza, scheduled to open next fall.

A handful of donors already qualify for the Founders Circle, including the Janss family, the Conejo Symphony Orchestra, GTE, developers Courtly Homes and the Lycon Group, biotechnology firm Amgen and the aircraft manufacturer Lockheed.

The Alliance for the Arts, the principal endowment fund-raising group, has collected $1.9 million in pledges and donations so far.
