Pennant Race Makes Strange Bedfellows
What’s the world coming to when the San Francisco Giants are on the front page of the sports section and the Dodgers are on the second page? This is Los Angeles, isn’t it? The Giants still hate the Dodgers, don’t they?
Just checking.

My wife and I woke up Sunday to the Times.
I said to her, “Gee whiz, the Dodgers are now on page 14.”
She said, “Isn’t that the obituary (page)?”

I was born and raised to hate the San Francisco Giants and to wish them every evil possible. But when I think of the possibility of having to spend another postseason of watching that idiotic chop and listening to that insipid moan the Braves’ fans call a war chant, I’m not too sure where my non-loyalties lie. It’s bad enough having to put up with the stupid wave regularly at Dodger Stadium.

Someone please explain to me why Tommy Lasorda had to tell his players before the Sept. 6 game with Atlanta that the whole world would be watching, so they needed to play their best.
Give me a break. At those salaries, they should give 100% every time, and if they can’t, they ought to retire and give the young players a chance.
