PREP FOOTBALL : Droughns Figures in Anaheim’s Rushing Success, Victory

Gone is Anaheim’s dynamic duo of Che Garcia and Brian Diaz.

Now comes the X-Men.

With the graduation of Anaheim’s top two rushers, the Colonists’ running game was an X-factor coming in to the season.

It isn’t anymore, thanks to Reuben Droughns.

Droughns put on quite a show Saturday night at Glover Stadium, rushing for 258 yards and three touchdowns in 25 carries to lead Anaheim to a 28-21 victory over Fullerton.

And Droughns is only a sophomore, and it was his varsity debut.

It didn’t take long for Droughns to get started.

He scored on a nine-yard run, on a fourth-and-one situation, with 6 minutes 18 seconds left in the first quarter.

With 4:02 left in the quarter, Droughns ran 11 yards for a score.

The 6-foot-1, 185-pound sophomore then ran 67 yards for another touchdown in the second quarter.

Fullerton scored just before the end of the first half, when Chris Young passed 23 yards to Keith Ginter.

The Indians cut the lead to 21-14 when John Wilkie intercepted a Jaime Carlos pass and returned it 49 yards for a score.

Carlos then passed 17 yards to Travis Pena for Anaheim’s final score. Fullerton’s last score came on a seven-yard run by Young.

Anaheim’s Javier Gomez had an interception and Damion Marquez recovered a fumble.

Ginter caught seven passes for 107 yards for Fullerton and Ryan Schatz grabbed five for 95 yards.
