A 31-year-old Santa Ana man was stabbed and shot late Friday when he tried to help another man collect an overdue loan payment, police said.

Police Sgt. Dick Faust said the incident began at 8:30 p.m. in the 1800 block of West 18th Street.

Augustine Lomera, 31, was helping his brother-in-law, Germain Castillo, 22, of Santa Ana, collect $3,000 owed by Castillo’s brother, Patricio, 25, also of Santa Ana, in the front yard of the debtor’s home, police said.

“Patricio Castillo stabbed Lomera three times, and then shot him three times in the stomach and side,” Faust said. Germain Castillo and Lomera both fled the area and called police.

“The suspect fled the area in a white Ford Escort prior to the police arriving,” Faust said. Patricio Castillo is still at large, he added.

Police said they had no information on Lomera’s condition or where he was being treated.
