Water Polo Event Has Top Teams
Corona del Mar, the top-ranked water polo team in Orange County and the Southern Section Division I, and defending champion El Toro are the favorites in the South Coast Tournament, which starts today at four local high schools.
El Toro, ranked second in the county and Division I, beat Corona del Mar in the tournament championship game last year and went on to win the Southern Section title. Corona del Mar opens play against La Canada at 3 p.m. at Corona del Mar. El Toro plays University at 3 p.m. at Tustin High.
The 32-team field includes every team in the Orange County top 10, all but two of the Division I top 10 and the top four Division II teams.
The title match is at 3 p.m. Saturday at Newport Harbor High.
