A 30-year-old man has pleaded not guilty to charges he burglarized 11 Glendale, La Crescenta and San Gabriel homes and sexually assaulted an elderly woman while posing as a window washer, officials said Wednesday.

Gary Darnell Williams, also known as Barry Williams of Los Angeles entered his plea Monday before Pasadena Superior Court Judge Jack Tso, who set a pretrial conference for Oct. 13. Williams remains in custody in lieu of $230,000 bail.

Williams faces 11 felony counts of residential burglary and one felony count of sexual battery stemming from an Aug. 15 incident in Glendale, court officials said. A second sexual battery charge involving a La Crescenta woman was dropped for lack of evidence.

In the alleged burglaries reported between December, 1992, and August, 1993, all the victims were over 65 years old, Glendale Police Investigator Steve Carey said. Seven of the cases involved losses of under $1,000, he said.

Police said they believe Williams posed as a window washer during the past two years, gaining access to at least 50 homes.
