COLLEGE FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : ACROSS THE NATION : Two Assistants Suspended for Fight
Assistant coaches Donnie Thompson of North Carolina and Ted Cain of North Carolina State game will be suspended for one game each for fighting, their schools said Monday. The two fought moments after North Carolina’s 35-14 victory at Carter-Finley Stadium on Saturday. Players had fought during the first half.
Gerald Farley, a sophomore defensive back for Oklahoma, has been charged with first-degree burglary, Norman, Okla., police said. The Oklahoma athletic department said Coach Gary Gibbs suspended Farley from the team Friday.
Virginia Tech defensive end P.J. Preston has been cleared to return to the team after a hypnotist treated him for a gagging disorder that caused him to quit the team. Preston began gagging whenever he practiced. Doctors concluded that the gagging began with a mild case of flu and continued as a conditioned reflex.
