Irvine Valley, which has won Orange Empire Conference women’s cross-country titles the last two seasons, appears strong enough to win a third in a row this fall. The Lasers have a strong pack of runners led by freshman Medina, from Laguna Hills High School. Medina finished second Saturday at the Golden West Invitational to help the Lasers to the meet title. She had a time of 19 minutes 6 seconds on the 5,000-meter course. Medina was one second behind Cal State Long Beach’s Magdalena Levy, who set a meet record.
Other notables:
* Andrea Bill had 35 kills as Saddleback finished third in the Rancho Santiago women’s volleyball tournament.
* Erin Remy finished third for Orange Coast, which won the Steve Scott cross-country race in El Cajon.
