Eisenhower Gets Past Muir, 22-14

Rialto Eisenhower High running back Marlon Farlow broke a tie score with a one-yard touchdown run with 3:19 remaining to spark the Eagles to a 22-14 nonconference victory over Pasadena Muir Friday night at Eisenhower.

An illegal participation penalty against the Mustangs (3-1) figured prominently in the game. Muir had 12 men on the field during an Eisenhower punt midway through the fourth quarter with the score tied, 14-14.

“They had a few penalties,” Eisenhower Coach Tom Hoak said. “Man, that was a big one. I was counting their players and I only counted 11. I half expected the penalty to be on us.”

Instead of taking possession on the Eagles’ 42-yard line, the Mustangs gave Eisenhower a first down. The Eagles (4-0) continued their 13-play, 86-yard drive, capped by Farlow’s score.

“That really hurt us,” said Jack Allen, Muir’s first-year coach. “That was the play. I really thought we could come in here and beat them.”

The Mustangs, who lost to Eisenhower, 6-3, last season, trailed, 8-0, at halftime, on Farlow’s 67-yard touchdown run with 22 seconds left in the half, but Muir came back in the second half.

Muir receiver Adonis Harrison’s nine-yard touchdown reception drew the Mustangs to within 8-7 in the third quarter.

Eisenhower quarterback Glenn Thompkins answered with a 19-yard touchdown run on a bootleg to increase the team’s lead to 14-7.

Muir’s Kenny Haslip returned the ensuing kickoff 89 yards to set up a three-yard scoring pass from Jeremy Bonwell to Harrison. That tied the score with 9:55 remaining.

Farlow rushed for 115 yards in 17 carries.

Bonwell completed 12 of 17 passes for 117 yards and two touchdowns.
