Villanueva, Garcia Pace Century to Victory

SANTA ANA — Stanley Villanueva threw for two touchdowns as Century defeated Playa del Rey St. Bernard, 20-19, at Santa Ana Stadium.
Villanueva, a junior, connected with Ignacio Vega on a 40-yard scoring strike to make it 19-7 before the end of the first half. Late in the game, he found Julio Garcia for a 29-yard touchdown pass to clinch the game the Centurions (1-3).
Garcia, who scored on a three-yard run in the third quarter, ended the evening with 121 yards rushing in 20 carries. The senior also had three receptions for 38 yards.
The Vikings scored quickly, returning the opening kickoff 93 yards for a touchdown, and scored again on its first possession from scrimmage. Senior tailback Carlos Meeks had a 65-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. Crucial were two failed kicks following their last two touchdowns.
St. Bernard (2-2) was led by Meeks, who rushed for 150 yards in 14 carries.
