Crenshaw, Sylmar Run Over Grant, 55-7

Share

Tyrone Crenshaw rushed for 195 yards in 15 carries and scored three touchdowns to lead Sylmar High to a 55-7 victory over host Grant in a Valley Pac-8 Conference football opener Friday.

Crenshaw, the 1992 City Section 4-A Division player of the year, suffered an injured right ankle in the Spartans’ 6-0 loss to El Camino Real last week, but he was healthy enough against Grant to score on runs measuring 46, three and one yard.

Crenshaw’s first touchdown gave Sylmar (2-1-1) a 14-0 first-quarter lead and his second gave the Spartans a 27-0 lead early in the second period.

Sylmar scored its third touchdown on Mark Reynosa’s 19-yard punt return. Reynosa, a transfer from Dana Hills High, scored easily after Grant punter Alex Rose shanked a three-yard punt. Every Grant player--including Rose--lost track of the ball, and Reynosa scooped it up in stride and loped into the end zone.

Sylmar, the defending City 4-A champion, rolled up 374 yards--352 rushing--in total offense and held Grant (2-2) to 37.
