Long Beach : 2 Meetings on Conversion of Navy Housing Scheduled

City officials will hold two community meetings on plans for reusing property in west Long Beach that will soon be vacated by the U.S. Navy.

The Navy is considering several proposals for the Cabrillo and Savannah housing facilities that cover 135 acres just north of Pacific Coast Highway and west of the Long Beach Freeway. The proposals include a university-related research park, a high school, a job training center and housing for the homeless.

The Navy will decide what will become of the property, which will be vacated next year.

The first meeting is scheduled for 7 tonight at Webster Elementary School, 1755 W. 32nd Way. The second meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday at Veterans Park, 101 E. 28th St.
