Football / Running back-safety

Coach Buddy Bland had always intended to use Williams, the Century League 100-meter champion last spring, at running back, but there was never the need until Jamie Worthem injured his knee Sept. 30 against Western. Williams stepped into the lineup Thursday and rushed for 151 yards and two touchdowns in a 28-21 victory over Anaheim. He also intercepted two passes, running the first one back 96 yards for a touchdown. His second, followed by a 30-yard return, set up the winning touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Other notables:

* Eric Escobedo, Huntington Beach, rushed for 147 yards, caught four passes for 114 yards and scored four times in a 58-14 victory over Santa Ana.

* Mike Hynes, Savanna, caught nine passes for 148 yards and three touchdowns in a 47-19 victory over La Habra.
