Garrison Hearst, the Phoenix Cardinal running back who was the third player chosen in this year’s draft, will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his left knee and sit out at least five weeks.

The Green Bay Packers, who lost running back Eric Dickerson when he failed his physical after being traded by the Atlanta Falcons, signed running back Kevin Williams. Williams was a fifth-round draft choice of the Denver Broncos last April but was waived on the final cut in late August. . . . Running back Tim Worley, coming off a year’s drug suspension, was traded by the Pittsburgh Steelers to the Chicago Bears for two conditional draft choices. . . . An investment group seeking to bring the New England Patriots to Hartford, Conn., submitted a formal offer to buy the NFL team for $133 million.
