Eric Zeier passed for 425 yards and three touchdowns Saturday and Georgia took advantage of poor clock management by Kentucky late in the game to defeat the Wildcats, 33-28, at Athens, Ga.

Zeier, who completed 31 of 47 passes, with one interception, had scoring passes of 61 yards to Brice Hunter, 27 yards to Hason Graham and eight yards to Shannon Mitchell, the latter erasing a 28-27 deficit with 13:17 to play.

Georgia improved to 4-4 overall and 2-4 in the Southeastern Conference. Kentucky (4-3, 3-2) missed a chance to move into a share of the SEC East lead with Florida.

The Wildcats had their chance, taking over on their 23-yard line with 3:48 remaining.

Moe Williams raced 30 yards to the Georgia 45 on the second play and later had an 11-yard run to the Bulldogs’ 31.

After a pass by Pookie Jones fell incomplete with 1:48 remaining, the Wildcats got a three-yard run from Williams and didn’t call time out until the play clock ran down to one second.

There were 50 seconds remaining when Williams swept the left side for a two-yard loss. Kentucky still had one timeout left, didn’t use it, and on fourth and nine, Jones threw over the middle, with Charlie Clemons intercepting on the 11 with nine seconds to play.

South Carolina 22, Vanderbilt 0--Steve Taneyhill passed for 269 yards and the Gamecocks shut down the Commodores’ offense at Columbia, S.C.

Taneyhill dove in from a yard out in the first quarter for the Gamecocks’ only offensive touchdown. South Carolina’s return team and defense scored nine of the Gamecock’s 19 first-half points--two on a safety and six on the return of a blocked punt for a touchdown.

Although it has lost twice to option teams this season, South Carolina (4-4, 2-4) kept the Commodores’s I-bone on its heels.
