PREP ROUNDUP : Valdez Helps Santa Ana Valley Win Water Polo Tournament

Omar Valdez scored six goals as Santa Ana Valley swamped Estancia, 14-6, Saturday to win the championship of the La Quinta water polo tournament at Los Caballeros Country Club.
Joe Valdez had 13 saves for Santa Ana Valley, which improved to 16-4. Adam Bollenbach scored five goals for Estancia (14-7).
In the third-place game:
Fountain Valley 12, Cypress 9--Eric Best scored five goals, capping a tournament total of 16, for Fountain Valley. Fountain Valley lost, 10-9, to Estancia in the semifinals.
In Santa Barbara Tournament of Champions girls’ volleyball:
Corona del Mar 3, Poway 1--Jennifer Stroffe, the tournament MVP, had 21 kills as Corona del Mar defeated Poway, previously unbeaten and the No. 1-ranked team in the state, 15-9, 13-15, 15-8, 15-13, for the tournament championship at Santa Barbara High.
Kim Coleman added 19 kills for Corona del Mar (18-2). Kara Milling led Poway with 13 kills.
In the semifinals, Corona del Mar defeated Long Beach Millikan, 15-5, 13-15, 15-9, 15-6, behind 14 kills by Stroffe.
In Brentwood Classic girls’ volleyball:
Cavalry Chapel 2, Brentwood 1--Courtney Owens had 17 kills for Cavalry Chapel, which defeated Brentwood, 15-11, 8-15, 15-13, for the championship.
Sarah Roberts had 14 kills for the Eagles, who were ranked second in the Southern Section Division V poll, behind Brentwood.
In nonleague water polo:
Capistrano Valley 11, Los Alamitos 5--Jake Yokota scored four goals for Capistrano Valley (13-9), which scored five times in the fourth quarter. Jeff Gabert had 12 saves for the Cougars.
Costa Mesa 6, Marina 5--Sam Grayeli, who scored twice, had the winning goal early in the fourth quarter. Steve Popov also had two goals for the Mustangs (16-7). Goalie Chris Avitia had 14 saves for Costa Mesa.
Newport Harbor 11, Sunny Hills 7--Brad Pence scored five goals and teammate Gabe Wyatt added four as Newport Harbor (12-7, 4-1) avenged a loss to Sunny Hills last week in the North County Tournament.
