COLLEGE FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : UCLA : A Chance to Start Over

It’s the Pacific 10 Conference’s most important game of the season. Well, in Tucson, maybe.

“I think it’s the Pac-10 game of the year,” UCLA Coach Terry Donahue said of his Bruins’ meeting with undefeated and seventh-ranked Arizona on Saturday at the Rose Bowl, “but only because Arizona has done so well. It would be nice if we were in that position. If we had won the first game of the year, we would be.”

The Bruins lost, 27-25, to California in the season opener and are 3-1 in conference.

UCLA must win to stay in the Rose Bowl race.

“I think a lot of people are trying to make this the conclusion of the season,” Donahue said. “It’s not, but I wish it was. There’s still a month to play, and every team has a tough row to hoe. The season’s not going to end on Saturday.”

An Arizona victory, though, would mean every other Pac-10 team besides USC has two losses with three games to play.

“If we win the game, I think the conference race starts again,” Donahue said.
