Firefighters expected to have complete control by Thursday of an 800-acre brush fire in Sonoma County, the largest of several relatively small blazes in Northern California.

Fueled by strong winds, the fire broke out at 1:30 a.m. Wednesday and was contained several hours later. Complete control was expected by 8 a.m. today.

The fire threat, raised by high temperatures and breezy conditions, forced authorities to reopen fire season in the northern third of the state, said Karen Terrill, spokeswoman for the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.

Fire crews were put on 24-hour alert. Others were sent to help fight the devastating blazes in Southern California.

About 15 miles from Redding, a blaze blackened about 15 acres of brush and timber, according to Shasta-Trinity National Forest spokeswoman Mary Ellen Grigsby.

There were no reports of injuries resulting from any of the blazes.
