Miner Lifts Heat Over Lakers

Harold Miner scored 22 points and the Miami Heat used a 17-0 second half run to earn a 106-91 exhibition victory over the Lakers on Wednesday night.

The Heat led, 74-70, before closing the third quarter with eight consecutive points, four by Miner, to make it 82-70.

Miami opened the final quarter with baskets by four players before John Salley capped the rally by making one of two free throws to increase the lead to 91-70 with 9:35 to play. The Lakers went more than 8 1/2 minutes without a field goal.

Laker guard Anthony Peeler was sent home from the trip Wednesday for additional tests on what has been diagnosed as tendinitis in his right knee. James Worthy did not dress for Wednesday’s game because of a sore left knee.

Miner made eight of 10 shots and six of eight free throws. Glen Rice and Steve Smith each added 17 point for the Heat, which outrebounded the Lakers, 60-37.

Trevor Wilson led the Lakers with 16 points. Only three Lakers scored in double figures, and the team managed only 36 second-half points.

The Heat is 3-2 in exhibition games. The Lakers are 4-3.
