National Park Service officials have shut down all park facilities in the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area, and will not reopen the areas until the Thousand Oaks fire has been contained.
Roads surrounding the parkland have also been blocked to all but emergency vehicles. No other vehicles will be allowed on Pacific Coast Highway and Encinal Canyon Road west of Kanan Dume Road, Yerba Buena Road, Little Sycamore Canyon Road, Decker Road and Potrero Road.
By Thursday afternoon, the fire had burned an estimated 2,500 acres of park service land in Rancho Sierra Vista/Satiwawa, Deer Creek Canyon, Malibu Springs, Nicholas Flat, and Circle X Ranch. Four small structures at Circle X Ranch, valued at about $250,000, were destroyed.
