COLLEGE FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : UCLA : Adams Finally Set to Return

Share

It has been a long time coming for Bryan Adams.

“Almost two years since I’ve played a game,” he said after getting enough practice time to prepare himself to play Saturday night against Arizona at the Rose Bowl. “I was more concerned with catching the ball in practice than running the routes.”

Adams, a junior wide receiver, did not play last season because of an ankle injury and was set to start this season before pulling a hamstring the week before the opener against California.

“It’s been frustrating more than anything else,” he said. “I had spent a lot of time running this summer with J.J. (Stokes) and Carl Greenwood and thought I was ready.”

Adams, the fastest Bruin when injury free, caught 14 passes for 282 yards and a touchdown in his last season, 1991.

He is expected to get a few plays Saturday, with more time next week at Washington State.

Another Bruin who will return Saturday is left tackle Jonathan Ogden, out since the Stanford game because of a knee injury. His return will allow Craig Novitsky to move from tackle back to left guard, where he started the season.

Cornerback Greenwood is expected to start with a bandage to protect a broken index finger that kept him out of the Oregon State game.

Fullback James Milliner is not expected to play, although the decision on his status will be delayed until game time.

Firefighters and their families will be admitted free to Saturday’s game by presenting their identification at Gate A. Lot H at the Rose Bowl, normally a tailgating area, will be closed to parking because it is being used as a staging area for firefighters.
