Recovery & Resources / AN ORANGE COUNTY GUIDE TO COPING WITH FIRE : Where to File for Property Tax Relief
Property owners whose homes were damaged or destroyed by fire may qualify for property tax reductions or a deferral of property tax payments, officials said Thursday.
Orange County Assessor Bradley L. Jacobs said that his office would distribute claim forms throughout the affected South and North County areas in an attempt to reach all those eligible for tax relief.
Under California law, property owners who have suffered at least $5,000 in damages qualify for reductions.
In the event destruction is total, Jacobs said, the office would “take action” without the filing of a calamity reassessment claim. Jacobs said staff members would be available at public assistance centers throughout the county to help residents file their requests.
Property owners may also obtain claim forms by calling (714) 834-2942.
