John Elway, improving his record at Mile High Stadium to 60-16, threw two touchdown passes as the Denver Broncos beat the Seattle Seahawks, 28-17, Sunday.

Robert Delpino ran for two touchdowns as the Broncos (4-3) raised their record against the Seahawks at Mile High to 13-3. It was Denver’s 20th win in its last 23 home games.

The Broncos, who had lost their previous two, started slowly for the third straight week as Seattle (4-4) took a 7-0 first-quarter lead.

But the Seahawks couldn’t withstand three straight Denver touchdowns in the second quarter, including Elway’s scoring passes of 20 yards to Vance Johnson and five yards to Shannon Sharpe.

Elway completed 23 of 36 passes for 255 yards. Seattle rookie Rick Mirer was 16 of 30 for 201 yards with two interceptions.

Asked to assess the play of his Seattle counterpart, Elway said: “I was really impressed with him, with his composure and poise. He has all the ingredients to be a great player in this league.

“I just wish he hadn’t come along until three or four years from now. I’m sure in the next three to four years we’re going to have a lot of heated contests with them.”

Mirer said he found himself admiring Elway during various moments of the game. “At some points in the game, he did anything he wanted to,” Mirer said. “I hope to sit down with him someday and pick up some of those things.”
