PRO FOOTBALL: DAILY REPORT : RAIDERS : Hostetler Still Not Completely Sound?

Share

In his first two games as the Raider quarterback, Jeff Hostetler ran 15 times for 55 yards. In four games since, hobbled by knee and ankle injuries, Hostetler has carried 11 times for 28 yards.

With the Raiders 26th in the 28-team league in rushing, Hostetler was asked if he might resume scrambling now that he is feeling better.

“Who says I’m feeling better?” he said. “I’m . . . I’m . . . Let’s get on to the next question.”

That’s as close as Hostetler will come to saying he’s not 100%. His problems were compounded last Sunday when he was sacked by the San Diego Chargers’ Leslie O’Neal and landed heavily on his right shoulder.

Running back Nick Bell, who has carried only 20 times this season because of a pulled hamstring and a sprained ankle, practiced Wednesday.

Coach Art Shell said he wouldn’t speculate, at least until Friday, on Bell’s chances of playing Sunday against the Bears at Chicago.
