LAGUNA HILLS : Hair Salon to Hold Fund-Raiser for Teen

Share

A hair salon will hold a “cut-a-thon” on Nov. 14 to raise money for the Steve Woods Trust Fund.

From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., five stylists at Poppy’s Haircutters, 25256 Cabot Road, will offer haircuts for $10 each. All proceeds from their efforts will be donated to the fund.

Woods, 17, a San Clemente High School senior, was gravely injured Oct. 15 when a group of young men and teen-agers stood at the exit of Calafia Beach County Park and pelted four carloads of students with rocks and bottles as the youths attempted to drive away. Woods was speared in the skull with a metal rod from a paint roller when he reportedly stuck his head out the window of one of the vehicles.

He remains hospitalized, on full life-support systems, at Kaiser Permanente Hospital-Orange County in Anaheim.

Woods and the other youths had gone to the park after their high school’s football game.

“We all have kids and it’s scary to think that your kid goes to a football game and ends up like that,” Bonnie Barilla, a haircutter at Poppy’s.
