Suspect Is Caught on Roof
Responding to an alarm early Tuesday, Oxnard police nabbed a cat burglar with a black bag of stolen goods as the man climbed out of a broken skylight, a department spokesman said.
The man was taken into custody after police noticed a broken skylight at E-Z Mart discount store, 344 S. Oxnard Blvd. Officers then sealed off the building and called for a city Fire Department ladder truck.
Officers said they saw a man climbing along the rafters of the store with a large black bag. He then slipped through the broken skylight with the bag, they said.
Using the ladder truck, officers climbed after the suspect on the store roof and caught him hiding next to a large air-conditioning unit. The bag was found nearby with about $700 to $800 of stolen clothes and shoes, the police spokesman said.
Police said they arrested a man identified as Jorge Mora Morales, 25, who was being held on suspicion of burglary. Bail was set at $10,000.
