PLACENTIA : Ex-Trustee to Vie for 72nd Assembly Seat

Share

Former Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District Trustee Connie Underhill will announce her intention tonight to run against Ross Johnson in the Republican primary for the 72nd Assembly District.

Underhill said state legislators have made local governing bodies look bad by withholding property tax revenue from cities, counties and school districts.

She accused Johnson of being inaccessible to constituents.

“If I thought Johnson was doing a good job representing our interests, I might be willing to leave him in office,” Underhill said.

Underhill was elected to a two-year term on the school board in 1990. Probably the most significant position she took during her term was in opposing a controversial lighting and landscaping assessment on property owners.

The board considered approving the assessment without calling for an advisory vote by residents, a move Underhill protested.

Last November, Underhill lost her seat on the board. She will kick off her Assembly campaign tonight at the Main Street Restaurant in Yorba Linda.
