No Modem Number

The following is in response to the article Oct. 20 regarding computer access to the Ventura County Library system’s catalogue.

I was pleased to see that the Ventura County Library catalogue is finally available by modem, but you failed to print the phone number. Why make someone travel to a library branch (assuming they can figure out when it is open) to get a flyer that gives the basic information?

The phone number is 650-4050; software should be set for 8-N-1, full duplex and VT100 emulation. The log-in prompt should be responded to with the word library (in lower case). After that, it’s very easy; just follow the menu selections.

The activation of this capability now finally brings the county’s system up to the same level of access that many other library systems have had for several years. Let’s hope there is sufficient usage to keep it going.
