A 34-year-old man who was shot three times as he sat in a bar this week died from his wounds early Friday morning, police said.

Manuel Ordaz, 34, of Santa Ana was shot in the head, the hand and buttocks when gunfire broke out at 1:10 a.m. Thursday at the La Cascada Bar at 4406 W. 1st St., said Police Sgt. Art Echternacht.

“There were about 20 people in the bar, shots rung out, everyone hit the floor,” Echternacht said. “When the smoke cleared, the victim was lying there shot.”

Ordaz was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange, where he died more than 24 hours after the shooting.

Echternacht said police are having difficulty coming up with any leads in the case and have no suspects.

“Nobody saw anything,” he said. “I don’t know if they really didn’t see anything or if they are just not talking. We really can’t get anything out of anyone.”

It was the second fatal shooting to occur at or near the bar within the last three weeks. Last month, a man was found shot to death in his car in the parking lot behind the bar.

No arrests have been made in that case, police said.

Ordaz’s death marked the 70th homicide in Santa Ana so far this year. The previous record for homicides in the city in one year was 59 in 1991.
