Wide receiver Avery Anderson, sidelined three to six weeks because of a shoulder separation, is practicing again and has told coaches he wants to play Saturday.

“You kidding?” he said. “It’s the biggest game of my life. I’ve been watching these games since I was a kid.”

Terry Donahue’s greatest memory of a UCLA-USC game: “1980, the first one of my teams to win the game.” The Bruins won, 20-17, in Donahue’s fifth season as coach.

How soon they forget: “Somebody said the two greatest receivers in the history of the series would be on the same field Saturday in J.J. Stokes and Johnnie Morton,” said Donahue. “I reminded them that last year Curtis Conway and Sean LaChapelle played.”
