PRO FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : RAMS : Knox Declares Everett the Starter

Share

Ram Coach Chuck Knox, who said Monday that he had a “gut feeling” that Jim Everett would start at quarterback Sunday against the Washington Redskins, officially named Everett the starter on Wednesday. But Knox again refused to respond to Everett’s critical comments of the team’s offensive game plan after Sunday’s loss to the Atlanta Falcons. Everett, who returned to the starting lineup last week after being benched against San Francisco, criticized the game plan and a play sent in from the sideline shortly before halftime that resulted in a sack, a fumble and a lost field-goal opportunity against the Falcons.

Injury update: Offensive tackles Jackie Slater (torn pectoral muscle) and Robert Jenkins (dislocated toe) practiced for the first time in nearly two weeks. Slater, Jenkins and wide receiver Ernie Jones (bruised bone in right knee) are listed as questionable for Sunday.

Cornerback Robert Bailey (sprained left knee) is out four to six weeks, guard Tom Newberry (sprained right knee) is out for two weeks and defensive end Robert Young is out for the season after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery.

Jeff Pahukoa will replace Newberry, Gerald Robinson will replace Young and Courtney Griffin will replace Bailey. Knox said he expects to put Young on the injured reserve list, but doesn’t expect to make a roster move to replace him this week.
